Anonymous,
Sounds as though you have a relatively old lens and are referring to the depth of field indicators, which coincide with the scale on the front of the lens. Focus via the bellows, read off the distance from the side of the camera (can be tricky) then set the focused distance against the index mark on the front of the lens. If this is not clear and you are UK based you can phone 01782 753330.
Suggest you do a search on Google for "medium format technique", for example, to get more info on using medium format.

I'm new to medium format and have just bought a used RB67. I'm confused by some markings on the lens between the aperture markings and the shutter speed markings.
There are two 'markings' either side of the red centre index mark and I can't figure out what they're for; can you help?
I may ask some (what may appear to be) silly questions from time to time so I hope you'll bear with me while I lean. After all we all were new to this at some stage weren't we?
Maybe you also know of a good site(s) where I can learn more about medium format photography you can share with me?
