Mamiya 6 cameras use a very wide reading area that can pick up too much 'sky' if you are not careful. The metering system on the 7 is much tighter on the rangefinder area.

I have been using both mamiya 6s and 7s for the past few years. They are amazing cameras, capable of wonderful results, but I find the meters are hopeless. I shoot a lot of tranny, using natural light; the only way I have been able to get constant results is from using a Minolta 5 light meter.

Stephen,
I suggest that you return the camera to have the metering system checked. Return to:

All the photos I take with a poloriser come out almost black even though I add 3 three stops via the compensation dial. I meter with the filter and mount off the cammera and I meter in manual mode. Then I pop the filter mount back on and select +2 stops via the dial. Then I add on a further 1 stop via the appature ring. I had a Bronica Etrsi as well but I decided to take most of my picture this holiday with the 7II. I came back with the worst set of photos I have ever taken. I've been through the pain barrier with the Mamiya to the extent that I no longer leave the lens cap on !! but as for the metering I seem to be all over the place. Either sometings not working or I've got to learn photograpy all over again. Any ideas.
